⬜🟨🟩⬜⬜ SPRIG🟩⬜🟩⬜🟩 PERKY🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩 PARTY

Today’s word is the best word. How could there possibly be a better word? It also feels especially timely as we near the end of summer in the Northern Hemisphere. We might see some unexpected solves in one as players reach for starting words that apply to their lives. If today’s word was on your mind, that probably means great things about your life.

We’ve entered the first week of August, a time full of ripe tomatoes, brilliant sunsets and warm water at beaches. It’s also the beginning of corn and squash season in the rural areas around New York City. I chose SPRIG as my starting word to refer to the herbs I’ve been adding to my seasonal cooking lately. The jauntiness of the word also matches the jolt of late-summer energy that I’m experiencing. August, the bittersweet final month of summer, reminds us to savor the remaining days of warmth and late sunsets until they greet us again next year.

I employed the familiar method of starting my next guess with a yellow square from my previous one, and again, it led me closer to the answer. I’ve guessed PORKY in the past, but I felt that PERKY was more appropriate here, underscoring that rush of energy. With P_R_Y, I was home free. My guess of PARTY led to a satisfying solve in three, and the game concluded in a matter of seconds, leaving me to embrace my late-summer day — after I solve Connections, the Spelling Bee and The Crossword.

Today’s word is PARTY, a noun. According to Webster’s New World College Dictionary, it can refer to a social gathering or any group acting as a unit.

Today’s puzzle is moderately easy. The letter pattern in today’s word is distinctive enough that the answer can be found within six guesses, and the word is familiar, with no repeating letters.
